Razor Risk Technologies assists financial services institutions worldwide to measure and control risk through our professional services and our enterprise risk management framework, Razor. We specifically address the complex issues surrounding risk management – issues that were highlighted during the economic downturn with the collapse of institutions such as Lehman Brothers. From our experience, in order to measure and manage risk effectively, it’s necessary to manage the total exposure of a financial institution across all its global activities.
Our award-winning Razor risk management framework was officially launched in 2002. Razor was the result of our team’s many years of experience in developing advanced risk management solutions and extensive experience gained through building a bespoke credit and market risk system for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. We consulted many industry practitioners to determine the most critical areas that must be addressed to provide a best-practice risk management solution that supports customers today, and will support them in the future.
Rather than developing a black box, Razor is a risk framework that supports advanced risk measurement and management, and enables management to view their total exposure to individual entities on one consolidated platform. Razor accounts for all events and scenarios between the present and some future time horizon. Since the framework explicitly incorporates the passage of time, it allows for portfolios that change over time and under differing scenarios. Thus, a more realistic assessment of risk is possible. Since Razor is a framework and not a risk measure, practitioners can easily incorporate new sources of risk and accommodate innovations in supervision and risk management best practice. Neither practitioners nor regulators are 'locked' into formulaic approaches to risk.
